Hussain Al-‘adamy

· Hussain Bin Isma’el Bin Saleh Bin Rahim Al Obaidi Al-‘adamy, born 8th September 1952 in Baghdad, A’dhamiya city (traditionally held as an important center of Iraqi cultural heritage) is the son of a family committed to maintaining that heritage in both religious practices and daily- life activities without making it as a profitable business.

· In his early days, Al-‘adhamy used to be an athletic and international trainer in Romanian and freestyle wrestling, and Iraq champion for 5 times.

· He earned a higher diploma in music and singing, B.A. and M.A. Degrees in (eastern and western music sciences) from the University of Baghdad.

· He was director of the Iraqi musical folklore band as well as singer of Iraqi Maqam, teacher of Iraqi Maqam and music at the Iraqi Music Institute and College of Music in Baghdad, dean of Baghdad Institute for Musical Studies, director of Iraqi Maqam House and head of its advisory board, secretary of the Iraqi national committee of music, member of the supreme advisory committee of music and singing in Iraq , and is currently a member of the French Society of Music Composers and Authors.

· He sang the Iraqi Maqam in more than seventy countries and won medals, awards and certificates of appreciation from various art festivals and conferences during the last thirty-five years or so of experience.

· He won a major innovation award in Iraq in 1999 and was honoured the title of an artist from the Ministry of Culture of Iraq, viz. Iraqi Maqam ambassador in 2003. He is also member of the teachers union in Iraq.

· He won a Masterpiece international, awarded by UNESCO in 2003, for his singing, research and analysis of Iraqi Maqam.

· He gave many lectures on Iraqi Maqam and music at international meetings, Arab and foreign universities and art institutions, including: The Arab World Institute in Paris, the Higher Institute of Music in Tunis, Faculty of Music Education in Cairo, Yarmouk University in Jordan, University of Jordan, Khalid Shauman Institution in Amman, University of Fez, Morocco, Harvard University in Boston, George Town University in Washington and one of the institutions of art in New York. He is now a singing teacher and expert at the National Institute of Music at the King Hussein foundation in Jordan.

· Al-‘adhamy is a singer, author and researcher, and has published seven books in music and singing and numerous manuscripts, articles and essays.

· He has marketed a number of CD Maqam albums in his own voice in Europe and many other countries.

· His name and biography have been included in the Guinness Book of 20th. Century stars of Iraq.

· Awarded an honorary diploma in the festival on the world of Maqam in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan in 2009.

· Awarded Honorary Doctorate degree from the International Arab linguists and translation society in early 2009.

· Winner of Arab Music Consortium award of (Arabic Singing project), 2013, the award was received at the Cairo Opera House on 04/07/2014.

· Honored from Al-Khold Center for Studies and Strategic Researches in collaboration with the Peace Ambassadors Organization in October 2016.
